This is going to read like a commercial and……..
I’m reminded of the fellow who went to see his Doctor. After an examination and the usual cautionary advice, the fellow says, “Doc, I didn’t come here to be told I’m burning the candle at both ends…I came for more wax!”
As I attempt to put some of my hopes and dreams onto paper, nearing the magic moment of 2009, checking off last year’s accomplishments, I’m aware that a lot of my ‘bucket list’ involves things for which I need to have some kind of physicality in place. Example, competing in the Senior’s Summer Games means that I can only choose what my body allows me to do. However, I would like to do the choosing, rather than eliminate choices because of some silly thing we call aging.
Having been very active in sports many years ago, I was certainly aware of how my body was slipping in its job to keep me as involved as I’d like.
Trying to keep fit is about quality of life, and I don’t want anything to interfere if I can help it. I have so much to do that provides satisfaction in my life…..and I have an incredible team of life coaches, so I’m never short of new projects!
Having put the thought aside for too long, I finally stepped in and began the yoga experience. By golly, those folks know something! I can see myself accepting the more physical, therefore more enjoyable, projects for years to come…..even have to get rid of that ‘bucket list’ talk!
Yoga ain’t no exercise program per se, as there is much more to it than mere stretching. There are many aspects of the discipline that only become noticeable after considerable involvement. The calming effect and increasing mental acuity are bonuses to the improved agility.
With a great grandson (yep, we know) on the way, yoga means playing soccer, etc. with the little guy !
To have a person like my remarkable yoga teacher, as a partner in the game of generating a life doing what I love….well, that really matters!
